Every childhood story has a moral, though often not recognized until adulthood. Recall, for example, the stories of valiant medieval knights who lived by an impossible standard of values. Though many of the stories are fantasized, that doesn’t mean that medieval knights couldn’t teach us a thing or two about good character.

In the Arthurian tale, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the Knight of the Round Table Gawain had a star engraved on his shield to remind him of the values by which he should abide at all times. These values included benevolence, integrity, purity, Christ-centered faith, courage, and politeness.

Twenty-seven Million people are enslaved in the world today.
 
Does this surprise you?  The rampant prevalence of slavery has shocked students all over the globe as human trafficking awareness continues to spread.  The stories of sexual slavery, child prostitution, forced labor, abuse, and false imprisonment seem too incomprehensible to bear.
 
However, this is not only happening in third world countries, distant from the American church.  It thrives today in our hometowns.
 
In fact, I have personally seen the effects of slavery in my own hometown of Savannah, GA.

     Lying, pride, selfishness, lust fear, greed – these and a host of other things enslave people around the world. No one has the power to free oneself. There isn't a 30-day plan or a five step program we can check off our list to make us free.
